Solo Dad Parenting 101

Those of you without children you would be amazed what you learn about yourself from your first child when you are face to face with them for an entire week. I PROCLAIM NOW AND FOREVER THAT I LOVE MY WIFE... I will always give my wife credit for getting up in the morning and preparing MacKenzye for the trek across town to "daycare"... for I had no idea that MacKenzye does not... repeat DOES NOT follow a set routine in the morning.

See this is how it went down: Being a new dad I was excited about spending the whole week with my daughter... playing games, watching TV and bouncing around in the increasing supply of jumpers, bouncers, and exercise equipment that she outgrows weekly. I mean with so many things to do we will never get to them all in a week. Little did I know that it aint that simple in the morning... Children do not awaken and sit quietly while you fix breakfast or play for an hour then sleep for 2.... no, a 5 month old has it's own agenda and what they want and when they want it is all that matters!! and better still they do not tell you what they want and when to give it to them... YOU HAVE TO GUESS!! and by the time you figure it out... they want something new or are crying because you did not give it to them in the first place!! So I have decided to periodically write little things that I have learned to better help the first time dad while I blog about MacKenzye.

Lesson one:
When your wife asks you if you are ok.. and if you have everything that you need for the day... DO NOT LIE AND TELL HER THAT YOU KNOW EVERYTHING!! Instead tell her that you know nothing that she does in the morning and are lost without her guidance because once that garage door closes crying will immediately ensue and you are going to look like a fool holding a bottle, blanket, pacifier, rattle, dry diaper, while dancing a 80's dance... (Oh... the ol sprinkler you know you know it) Praying one of these random things will entertain her long enough to figure out what the real problem is!!!

Lesson Two:
Speaking of things that entertain... I am hoping that all children are inherit to have ADD because any activity over 15 mins is, to MacKenzye, old and needs to be immediately changed or we go back to the juggling act of "Guess What I want now Dad?!?!"

I have since learned many more things but being my first blog!! I will hold out for another day!!

  1. Chad, who knew you were so funny? I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and will look forward to hearing more from you. Remember all those visits with my children when you and Mary were like "wow"? Now you know! Take Care 'Daddy'.
